Protective & Structural Inserts

If you are shipping several items or fragile parts, avoid leaving empty space in the package. In fast-paced shipping, using sturdy internal supports helps stop items from hitting each other.

Box Dividers & Partitions

Choose dividers by considering both the number of items you need to ship and their shapes.

Sustainable & Specialty Inserts

The materials you choose for your product send a message about your brand values before customers even pick it up.

Marketing & Informational Inserts

The moment your customer opens a package is when they pay the most attention. Make it count. With our high-quality printing, your marketing inserts will feel like a gift instead of just another ad.

Find the Right Material for Your Custom Inserts

Choosing the right material is essential when designing packaging. Whether you require the shock absorption of high-density foam or the sustainability of kraft paperboard, the appropriate insert protects your product during delivery and preserves a premium unboxing experience.

Material Performance Comparison

Material Type Best For Durability Eco-Friendliness Relative Cost
High-Density Foam Electronics, Glassware, Medical Devices Maximum (Shockproof) Low (Recyclable in some areas) Premium
Corrugated Cardboard Heavy Items, Subscription Boxes, Shipping Dividers High (Structural Support) High (100% Recyclable) Economical
Paperboard / Kraft Cosmetics, Jewelry, Lightweight Retail Items Moderate (Scuff Protection) Excellent (Biodegradable) Budget-Friendly

Positional Control & Shock Absorption

Items stay where you place them, even if the box is dropped from three feet. Our precision die-cut inserts remove the air gap in your boxes. This stops kinetic energy from building up during shipping, which is the main cause of breakage in e-commerce.

Multi-Item Separation & Compliance

Structural partitions prevent products from mixing, which matters most for items like food, cosmetics, and chemicals. Our corrugated dividers meet safety standards for stacking strength, so even if the shipping carton is crushed, the contents stay protected.

Unboxing Experience & Brand Consistency

Every unboxing experience is consistent, no matter who packs the box. Branded insert cards and custom trays create a theatrical reveal for your customers. Research shows that 40% of consumers are more likely to share their purchase on social media when the packaging feels like a gift.

Case Study: The Mug Stress Test

We ran tests using our inserts with fragile ceramic mugs. When we used only bubble wrap, 12% of the mugs arrived with hairline cracks. After we switched to custom-fitted corrugated dividers, all test shipments arrived undamaged. This reduces your return costs and increases your long-term customer LTV (Lifetime Value).

Advanced Engineering Specs

We have different thickness options to suit the weight of your product:

  • E-Flute Corrugated is 1/16 inch thick and works well for small retail boxes and subscription kits.
  • B-Flute Corrugated is 1/8 inch thick and is the standard choice for shipping heavy jars or liquids.
  • 18pt to 24pt Paperboard is sleek and thin, making it ideal for cosmetic dividers and luxury jewelry displays.
  • Polyethylene (PE) Foam has a closed-cell structure, resists moisture, and is a good option for heavy industrial parts.

Common Questions About Marketing & Packaging Inserts

We’ve put together answers to your most common questions about custom marketing and packaging inserts, along with some helpful information.

Can I combine structural dividers with marketing cards in one order?

Yes, you can. Many of our clients use a Die-Cut Insert for base protection and add a Brand Story Card or Thank You Note on top. We can match the paper weights so everything feels consistent.

What is the difference between a Cell Divider and a Fence Partition?

People often use these terms to mean the same thing, but a Fence Partition usually means interlocking strips for bigger, flatter items. Cell Dividers are made for deeper, three-dimensional objects like jars or canisters.

Are your instruction sheets and user manuals folded or flat?

We offer both options. You can get instruction sheets as flat inserts, or choose multi-page leaflets and user manuals that are pre-folded to fit into even the smallest slots in your box.

How do I know which divider size fits my box?

Start by measuring the inside of your box, not the outside flaps. Choose dividers that are 1/4 inch shorter than the box height so the lid closes easily. The width and length should be 1/8 inch smaller than the inside of the box for a good fit. If you are unsure between two sizes, pick the smaller one. A slightly loose divider is better than one that is too tight.

Can I get recycled paperboard inserts that are strong enough for heavy items?

Yes, we offer recycled paperboard in different thicknesses. For heavier items, we suggest using a multi-ply scored pad or a heavy-duty Kraft divider. These options are strong and do not use virgin plastics.

Can inserts handle cold shipping with ice packs?

Yes, but the material you choose is important. Corrugated dividers can handle moisture from ice pack condensation for 24 to 48 hours without losing strength. For shipments that last more than 72 hours, it’s best to use coated corrugated or foam dividers. Foam inserts are not affected by moisture. One of our clients has shipped over 10,000 cold packs with corrugated dividers and has not seen any failures during two-day transit.

Will dividers work with automatic packing machines?

Most modern cartoning machines use two ways to handle dividers. One is manual pre-insertion, where an operator puts the divider in the box before it enters the machine. The other is mechanical insertion, where the divider feeds from a magazine. For mechanical feeding, dividers must have consistent dimensions within a ±1/16 inch tolerance. Interlocking grid dividers usually need to be assembled by hand, but single-piece foam inserts can be used with full automation. Please share your machine specifications with us during the design process, and we will confirm if everything is compatible.

Which option is more cost-effective for us: buying separate inserts or using boxes with inserts already fitted?

Pre-fitted boxes, where inserts are glued in during production, are more expensive. Buying boxes and inserts separately is cheaper at the same volume. Pre-fitted boxes save on labor since there is no assembly needed, but you lose the flexibility to switch box suppliers or change configurations between production runs.

How do I handle products with different heights in the same box?

Try using stepped dividers, which have different cell heights in the same insert, or use layered inserts. For example, if you have a skincare set with tall pump bottles and short jars, you can use a divider with 6-inch cells for bottles and 3-inch cells for jars, all in one piece. Another option is to use two separate insert layers: place a shallow tray on the bottom for jars and a taller grid on top for bottles. Stepped dividers usually cost the same as regular dividers, while layered inserts add 40-60% to the cost but offer better protection and a more attractive look.

Can I get inserts with my own artwork other than plain brown/white?

Yes, we can make custom-printed inserts with your own artwork or graphics. These usually cost an extra $0.12 to $0.50 per insert, since we need to set up the printing. If you only need a small number of inserts, colored labels can give a similar branded look for less.
